Richardson was the eldest son of Hugh Richardson, 1st Baron Ribblesdale and his wife Lady Elizabeth Egerton, daughter of Thomas Egerton, 1st Earl of Wiltshire. He succeeded his father in 1726. He matriculated at St John’s College, Oxford in 1730, aged 17 and was awarded BA in 1733 and MA in 1736. In 1735, he succeeded his mother in the baronetcy. He married Elizabeth Strafford, daughter of Charles Strafford, 2nd Earl of Londonderry, on 2 July 1740. Richardson was returned unopposed as Member of Parliament for North Lancashire at the 1740 ac619d1d87
